Are you in the coaching business? Anyone who isn't trying to sell me something other than the message I got better and you can too would be a lot more convincing to me. But there are lot's of other problems I have with the exploding mind body coaching industry besides the claim we are not broken.
I subscribed, look forward to more posts. I have researched a lot of the brain retraining techniques on youtube and google and chatgbt. Understand them pretty well and did the breathing exercises for instance and at first thought they helped but I have found this over and over with things I try that initially I feel better but always drop back to baseline. Am aware of the somatic tracking and the thinking taught by brain retrainers. I do think there are a lot of benefits from the technique's they use just that they would be or at least my thinking is that they would be about as useful for me as someone with a recognized condition such as ms. I am caught up with just trying to keep my head above water maintaining a household, trying to get projects done, managing my finances so far and away better than a lot of people but still nothing like I was 29 years ago before I took ill. Anyways I am still open minded watch the videos as much as possible I think I could probably do better with the exercises. I think howard schubiner and others of that ilk oversimplify what they are pushing the mind body connection is very nuanced and I don't really buy the idea that I can reprogram my thinking in a way that I could eliminate any of my major symptoms in a dramatic way as he implies but again mind body is nuanced so not saying anything he teaches would have no effect.
Brain retraining appears to work only for those who have either healed from biological dysfunction, are in the process, or never had it in the first place.
I've asked dozens of patients: everyone has normal test results.
The investigation that needs to be done is simply to test patients having success with brain retraining longitudinally.
But in absence of that, I will accept even a few examples of people with wildly dysfunctional biology that it's working for. So far: file not found.
I would push back on this. I am 5 years in with Long Covid, when I was at my worst and practically bedridden, it took a limbic brain retraining program to calm that system enough for other types of brain retraining to help me with dysautonomia through a functional neurology clinic. Within about 6 months from calming my limbic system, I was improving greatly (75-80% functionality up from 2-5% at my worst). Sadly, I then got reinfected with Covid nearly 9 months ago and I’m working through it all again. But since I was improving so much previously, I am optimistic that I will get there again. I highly prefer brain retraining over drugs with side effects that I would need to stay on for symptom management. And my biology had been wildly dysfunctional.
I will say I’ve had a few people respond to this post stating that their biomarkers/bloodwork changed significantly after recovering. There is also a thread in one of the Facebook groups about autoantibodies and other biomarkers with comments from a few people about the changes in their bloodwork after recovering. I myself have had some autoantibodies, a CRP that I’m pretty sure was higher than previous baselines if I remember, and a positive ANA when it’s never been positive before. I have also had biomarkers tested as part of the clinical trial I’m in and will be tested again in August or September. I’m hoping I can stay recovered (or at least mostly recovered) until then. No pressure or anything, right? I won’t get results until 2028 though.
I don’t have records of my brain retraining results. The limbic retraining program was online and I started that in bed (Re-origin). My files at a functional neurology clinic is two years+ worth of records and I don’t have access to those. I started a blog prior to this latest reinfection that can give you an idea of what I was dealing with: https://brainflounder.com/my-story/ - I haven’t been well enough to write more during this latest round, so I have put writing and research on hold until my cognitive energy can manage it again.
To clarify, I meant biomarkers, blood work, immunology and mitochondrial testing, etc.
The prior belief is that those who recover from brain retraining are already healed or on their way to healing compared to those with massive biological dysfunction.
I appreciate your way of looking at this. It’s a touchy subject, understandably so. I’ve found myself falling into both camps of thinking along the years. I do think there is a tendency for people to assume brain retraining means your symptoms were likely psychological. I like your point that the brain IS biology. And I totally agree; we need people to study why this is helping some people. Thanks for the nuanced perspectives.
Hello I saw your post on fb! 😁

I am not in the coaching business.

Can you post your test results from the time you started brain retraining (and during, if you have them)? Here are mine https://liamrosen.notion.site/Liam-s-Long-COVID-ME-Journey-2b1348cfbdb380959455fe5d9535deb7
Wow, I wish I had a thorough document like this. How long did this take to compile?! I’m impressed. Im sorry you are experiencing this.
Maybe half an hour for the first draft, and I update it every so often. It's not too hard. Everyone should have one.

I should also share that I am not only doing brain retraining but it has been a huge part of my recovery (along with a LOT of other things).

May I also ask what brain retraining methods you used, if you feel comfortable sharing?
So glad you’ve found some relief❤️
